LLPC & LLC Supervision.

$100/session

Utilizing a blended supervision model, these one-on-one supervision sessions are one hour in length and are typically conducted on a weekly basis (aside from holidays, vacations, etc). Options to meet in person and/or virtually.

You can anticipate earning around 50 hours of supervision within a 12 month period. This will allow you to accrue the 100 required hours for your LPC license in about 2 years.

Steps to becoming an LPC (Licensed Professional Counselor) in Michigan

 

〇 Complete a 48 semester hour degree in Counseling or a related field

The program must meet or exceed the standards of the Council for Accreditation of Counselor and Related Educational Programs (CACREP), the Council on Rehabilitation Education (CORE), or a regionally accredited body. Qualifying programs include instruction in all of the following content areas:

  • Career Development

  • Consulting

  • Counseling Techniques

  • Counseling Theories

  • Counseling Philosophy

  • Group Techniques

  • Professional Ethics

  • Research Methodology

  • Multicultural Counseling

  • Testing Procedures & Assessment

〇 Complete both a Practicum and Internship as a part of your degree program

Both your practicum and internship experiences are supervised and do not count toward post-graduate supervision. You are required to accrue 600 hours of experience in your internship program.

〇 Create and submit a Professional Disclosure Statement

〇 Apply for your LLPC (Limited License)

〇 Pass a criminal background check and fingerprint report

Upon review of your license application, you will be sent an Application Confirmation containing instructions to complete the Criminal Background Check.

〇 Complete Supervision Requirements

Accrue at least two years of full-time or equivalent part-time supervision totaling a minimum of 3,000 hours. At least 100 of your required hours must be conducted in the (physical and /or virutal) presence of your supervisor.

Your Supervisor must be an LPC with least three years of counseling experience. Additionally, your supervisor must have received 30 hours of specific training in counselor supervision.

〇 Take the NCE (National Counselor Examination) or the CRC (Certified Rehabilitation Counselor) Exam.

The NCE is administered by the National Board of Certified Counselors (NBCC). It is a 200-question, multiple-choice exam which assesses knowledge, skills, and abilities in effective counseling services.

The CRC Exam is a 175 multiple-choice exam covering 10 subjects related to rehabilitation counseling. One portion of the exam tests knowledge regarding counseling while the other pertains to rehabilitation and disability issues.

Apply to the Michigan Board of Counseling for your LPC title

〇 Continuing Education and License Renewal

Currently, there is no requirement for Continuing Education for LPCs in the state of Michigan. Be sure to remain informed of any potential changes in the law regarding licensure via the Michigan Board of Counseling.

You are responsible for renewing your license (and paying the associated fee) at the appropriate time. LPC licenses in Michigan expire on May 31 every three years.
